Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • I am the "corresponding author" of the submission and I acknowledge that the authorship data (including the roles and order of the contributors) that I provide via the online submition form is by no means modifiable throughout the review and publication process. I understand that submissions uploaded by anyone other than the corresponding authors may be desk rejected without refund of the submission fee.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • I understand that any plagiarism will be dealt with according to COPE code of ethics.
  • The submission and its abstract are no more than 4,500 and 250 words, respectively.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • The text is single-spaced, uses a 12-point font size, and employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate positions, rather than at the end or in a separate file.
  • I have paid the submission fee and have a picture of the receipt ready for upload.
  • The text and the file name of the submission is void of any names or particulars that may reveal the identities of authors or contributors.

Author Guidelines

The Iranian Journal of Translation Studies welcomes contributions of original research papers, case studies and reviews on translation issues and prioritizes unpublished contributions.

We will not publish translated papers, interviews, translation criticism, or translation didactics. That is, we do not intend to translate, edit, or teach translation, nor do we aim to criticise and evaluate translations. Instead, we want to focus on original research and investigate all issues related to translation, including cultural, historical, linguistic, literary, and technological issues.

Authors are required to read through and observe the following requirements before submitting their manuscripts. Manuscripts that fail to comply with the journal requirements will be returned to authors for resubmission.

Manuscript Preparation and Writing Style

Manuscripts submitted to Translation Studies must follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), Seventh Edition in manuscript organization, writing style, and documentation. Most importantly, APA style must be observed in formatting in-text citations and the list of references. The manuscripts must also have the following features:

  • Length: Between 3000 and 4500 words.
  • File Format: Preferably Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx). Graphics can be delivered in TIFF, JPEG, PSD, or BMP formats.
  • References: Citations in the text and notes must be supported by a list of works cited.
  • Non-English Quotations: To be followed immediately in the text by a translation in [brackets].

Authors must also make sure that identifying information is removed from the body and metadata of the main manuscript file that will be subjected to the blind review process.

Manuscript Submission

Manuscript must be submitted through the journal website, using the Submission Wizard. Authors must include the following with the submission:

  • Abstract: An abstract of 150–250 words, written in both English and Persian.
  • Keywords: Between 3–7 keywords.
  • Author(s)’ Bio: A brief paragraph about yourself, including your affiliation and academic rank
  • Contact Details: Work or home address, email address, and phone number
  • Receipt of Submission Free Payment: See below.

Submission Fees

The journal charges a submission fee of IRR 12,000,000 for new manuscripts. Note that manuscripts rejected by the editor but later re-submitted by the author will be subject to a resubmission fee of IRR 6,000,000. All submissions will be considered only after payment of the submission fee. You will have to upload a picture of the payment receipt during the submission process via the Submission Wizard. Payment account details are as follows:

The submission fee is non-refundable and a manuscript may be rejected by the editors without being sent for review.

For manscuripts accepted for publication an additional IRR 50,000,000 publication fee must be paid to the above account, with payment receipt uploaded. 

Submission Deadlines

Manuscripts must be submitted by the following dates to be considered for the respective issue.

  • February 20 for the Spring issue
  • May 20 for the Summer issue
  • August 20 for the Autumn issue
  • November 20 for the Winter issue

Review Process

Translation Studies adopts a double-blind peer review process involving at least two, and usually three, reviewers who will comments on the quality and originality of the research. All manuscripts will be checked for plagiarism before publication using iThenticate and Turnitin. The review process make take from 1 to 3 months, depending on the schedule of the reviewers. Decision by the reviewers may fall under the following categories:

  • Accept Submission (accepted as is without any revision)
  • Revisions Required (minor changes needed)
  • Resubmit for Review (major changes needed) (It requires resubmission fee.)
  • Resubmit Elsewhere (not a good fit for the focus and scope of this journal)
  • Decline Submission (too many weakness to ever be accepted)

The Editorial Board will make the final decision about the publication of a manuscript based on the decision of the reviewers.

Publication Ethics

The journal follows the code of ethics laid out by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and complies with the highest ethical standards. By submitting a paper to Translation Studies, the authors represent that their text and any illustrations thereto comply with national and international copyright laws. The authors release and hold Translation Studies harmless from any claims or liabilities under such laws.

Authors are required to disclose any conflict of interest and source of funding from third party institutions and public or private companies, which will be reflected in the published article.

Quotations from any article published herein are permitted as long as proper reference is clearly made to the Iranian Journal of Translation Studies as the original source.
